A moment is a point where a new user stalls. PennyPost counts how many people hit each one and can email them right when it happens. Every email waits until the person has left your app (30 minutes after their last page view), so nobody gets an email while they're still using it.
| Moment | Who counts | When the email goes | It needs | It stops when |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Left before their results were ready | Their results finished 30 minutes or more after they last looked | As soon as the results are ready | A "results are ready" event, and results that take a while | They open the results page |
| Never opened the results page | A day after signup, they haven't opened it | Day 1 | A results page | They open it |
| Never did the first action | A day after signup, no first action | Day 1 | A first action event | They do it |
| Stopped halfway through setup | A day after signup, they opened a setup page but didn't finish | Day 1 | A setup page | They finish setup |
| Came once and never again | 3 days in, they got a first result but never came back on a later day | Day 3 | A results page | They come back |
On the Moments page each moment is a card with how many people stalled there in the last 30 days and whether its email is on. A card says what it still needs, like "Needs a ready event", until you've set it on Activation.
One email per stall
The middle three moments overlap: someone who stopped halfway through setup also never did the first action and never opened the results page. PennyPost treats them as one stall and sends the most specific email it can, in this order: stopped halfway through setup, then never did the first action, then never opened the results page. Once one of them is sent (or the person is held back for Results), the other two skip that person.
If "left before their results were ready" is live, the others wait for it.
The emails
Each moment comes with an email you can edit. Words in {{ }} are filled in for each person, like {{firstName}}, your results page, or the headline you sent with results_ready. Words in [brackets] are for you to fill in, like [your first set], and PennyPost won't let you go on until they're filled.
Your own flows
Need something the five moments don't cover? Build your own under Moments opens the workflow canvas: a trigger (a contact added, a tag, or an event from your app), then emails, waits, branches and tags.
