This takes about 10 minutes with PostHog, a bit longer with the snippet.
1. Create an account
Sign up at usepennypost.com. You land on Activation, which asks you to connect your app.
2. Connect your app
Pick one:
- With PostHog, click Connect PostHog, sign in to PostHog and pick the project your app sends to. PennyPost reads your last 14 days of signups, so the report has numbers in it within a minute or two. More on PostHog.
- With Segment, go to Other ways to connect, choose Segment and add a Webhooks destination. More on Segment.
- Otherwise, under Other ways to connect, choose Let Claude Code or Cursor add it and paste the prompt into your coding tool, or add it by hand. More on the snippet.
Not sure, or no time? Set it up for me asks us to do it with you. It's free for the first 10 apps.
3. Tell PennyPost what a result is
PennyPost needs to know which page shows a new user their first result (a finished headshot set, a scan report, a rendered video). It guesses from your traffic; you confirm it or type the page. It also asks whether results take a while to get ready. More on this.
4. Read the report
Activation now shows your new signups, how many reached their first result, and where the rest stalled. Moments shows the same as five cards, with the number of people stuck at each. The Do this next card on Activation points at the biggest one.
5. Turn on your first email
Click Turn on on a moment card, then I'll do it myself. Four steps: start the trial, connect sending, check the email, go live. The first 10 emails wait for you to click Send these. The steps in detail.
6. Wait for Results
Give it two weeks. Results shows how many emailed people came back next to the held-back group, and says whether the email helped once there's enough data.
