Turn on an email

Start the trial, connect sending, review the email and its first sends, then go live.

Click Turn on on a moment card. You can choose Set it up with me (we write the emails and set up sending with you, free for the first 10 apps) or I'll do it myself, which is four steps.

1. Start your 30-day trial

Pick your plan by how many new people sign up a month and click Start trial. Checkout asks for a card. It isn't charged until day 31, and if you cancel before day 30 you pay nothing. See Plans and billing.

2. Connect sending

Emails go from your own address through your own Resend account, so there are no DNS changes on our side.

  1. Sender address: prefilled as hello@ your domain. It must be on a domain you've verified in Resend.
  2. API key: in Resend, go to API keys and create a key with Sending access for that domain. Paste it (re_...).
  3. Delivery webhook: in Resend, add the webhook URL PennyPost shows, with these events: delivered, bounced, complained, failed, suppressed and delivery delayed. Paste its signing secret (whsec_...).
  4. Click Connect and check. PennyPost sends one email to Resend's test inbox (nobody receives it) and waits for the webhook to report back.

PennyPost encrypts the key and the secret before storing them.

3. Check the email

Edit the from name, subject, preview line and body. Preview as shows the email filled in for a real person who hit this moment in the last 30 days, or for "Alex", a sample. Send me a test sends it to your own address only.

4. Go live

The last screen sums up what happens:

  • Only people who stall from now on get it. Nobody from before.
  • Your first 10 emails wait for you.
  • About 1 in 10 people get nothing, on purpose, so Results has something to compare with.
  • The sending limits apply.

Click Go live.

Review your first sends

The first 10 emails don't go out on their own. They wait on the moment's page, one per person, so you can see exactly who would get what. Send these sends them, Don't send skips one person, and Send these and stop asking turns the review off for this moment. While emails wait, PennyPost re-checks every hour whether each person has got there on their own, and drops them if so. You get an email when sends are waiting.

Pause

A live moment shows Pause it. While it's paused nobody gets the email. Resume it starts it again.
